Monday 18th February
On this weeks wiki we were asked to google our names and see what our online identiies were. My name googled came up as a girl called Elnaz Menhaji she is a graduate from Yale University with a chemisrty degree she shares the same surname as me she is 26 and seems extremely intelligent I am happy with what Nigel found, i also googled different variations of my name using my mothers maiden name to see what came up when i googled Naz Kalhor nothing really comes up but the fact that everthing that came up is associated with Iran that show that my name atomatically has Iranian roots which i am proud of so the fact that i am linked with Iran is a positive connection. I googled my sisters name her stage name is Sarvi Kalor she took the 'h' out of my mothers maiden name and when i googled her every thing that was linked to her came her myspace page came up, links to her page came up and also a fan mail site came up she is an aspiring singer when i searched her name alot of positve and truthful information came up, however, when Abeer searched her name associations with terror attacks came up a girl with the same name in Iraq was a witness in a terror trial so she was not pleased with what was represented of her on line. Dimi searched his name and nothing came up so he does not have an online alter ego...

I have been researching my topic as i am looking at gender on line i have been looking at information on the internet and in books. The questions presented like what happens to us online? and Are we the same people we are face to face? in context to these questions i have been exploping the way in which people can create different online identities as an online identity is an identity which can be easily made up peoiple are free to rediefine themselves as they wish sometimes by stealing someone elses identity. Our group decided in the lesson that we would have a group meeting on Tuesay and bring with us all the research that we had gathered together.

Last week we were asked by Nigel to look at a good website and a bad website. As i said in my previous blog i feel that http://www.netaporter.com/ is a good website as i feel that it is extremely easy to use. It is a fashion website thats sells designers clothes, shoes and bags. It is very easy to find what you want as the website has been catagorised, you can search by designer (brand) or by the different catagories i.e bags, shoes, clothing. The ordering process is aslo very srtaight forward and you can also enlarge the image you are buying this helps you yo get a clearer image i feel that this is useful. The website aslo provides links to the the actual websites some of the designers e.g Chloew and Jimmy Choo have links to their boutiques. The language is straight forward and you can also view the prices of the mercandise in euro and in the dollar. The layout and the colours used in the website are not extremely elaborate the background colour is white and the options area all in black which makes it easy to read. I feel that the colours do work for the site as it is a high class website and with black and white i feel like the theme is continued with the choice of those colours. The prices given in the site are generalyy the same as the prices of the goods in Selfridges and Harrods they are not over priced you do have to pay for postage. Looking at Nigels comment i undersatnd where he is coming from therfore i will continue to talk about the visual aspects of the website in greater detail i feel like i stated before that the text is clear it is easily read and also the use of black and white makes it clear to read and each link is easily acsessed. A websit that i feel is not quite a stright forward as netaporter is http://facebook.com/ i feel that the blue on blue colour is not that clear also i feel that there are far too amny applications and not all of them are easliy accessed. The Website in itself hasd too much going on although the text style and content is easy to undersatnd i just feel that there is too much going on.

Multimedia Project Module

In todays lesson we were tought how to write in html. I was not present in last weeks lesson but was told that our group was formed our group is Abeer, Dimi, Johnatan and i and our chosen topic was going to be on-line identity. In the lesson today we were told to open Notepad and were give a series of instructions to write on the page these instructions would lead us to creating the first page of a website by wrtiting html. We were tought how to add text style and colour to the page, we were also able to add a table to the page. As our chosen topic was on-line identity we assigned roles within the group and decided that each of us would take a sub- topic of online identity....Dimi was going to look at online dating, Abeer is going to look at facebook, Johnathan is going to look at Cybersex and i decided i was going to focus on gender online. we set ourselves the tasks to gather a smuch inforamtion as we could on our topics so by next week we colud get more of an idea of how our project would come together. At the end of the lesson we were asked to look at the differences between a good and bad website. In my opinion i already feel that netaporter.com is an extremly good website i will discuss this futher in my next blog.

Multimedia Project Module

Today we began our multimedia project by listening to an insightful presentation by Nigel, he talked us through what the purpose of our project would be. we were also shown examples of different blogs to get an idea of how to start one, along with a blog a wiki was created. We were also given an outline to the course explaining to us how we should put together our groups. There is a choice of two topics Virtual communities and Identity online each group should focus on 2/3 issues within the chosen theme. Today was an introduction in to what we have to expect from the following weeks and how to develop certain skills such as working with different kinds of resources and different media. We will be creating a a set of linked web pages for our chosen topic.
